The artwork being exhibited is a study of
Poet: Michael Longley - Study number 5
'If I knew Where Poems Come From I Would Go There.'
I created a total of 4 pieces before settling on this.
When started working on this theme, I had been in hospital at a fairly low point with my recovery when I learnt of Michael Longley passing away
I was saddened by this and although I did not know him I felt a true sense of loss I suppose this combined by the fact I had just undergone major heart surgery I think my sense of gratitude and respect for life and the sense of loss was heightened.
I had to pay my respects in way that I can express best.
The first 4 studies did not satisfy what I felt so when completed Study 5 felt right.
I mostly to work with refound materials. I find they help trigger a direction, a bit like striking a match from there I like to mix it up with oil sticks, chalks and a variety of substances.
Knowing when to stop and leave the work to percolate is the secret.
My art is non photo realistic but I hope it captures a sense of the soul by capturing an energy.
Memorable images and icons tend to work in a symbolic way and I find this to be the most inspiring.
