Mario Sierra

Mourne Textiles was founded in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, County Down, by Norwegian textile designer Gerd Hay-Edie. Her iconic textile designs and pioneering weaving techniques became staples of mid-century British design. Collaborations with renowned figures such as Robin Day, Hille, and Terence Conran followed.

Her grandson Mario Sierra carries on the family legacy, connecting the designs of the past with modern influences. Mourne Textiles now create luxurious furnishing fabrics, cushions, blankets, and scarves, continuing fruitful collaborations with contemporary designers such as Margaret Howell and Carl Hansen.

This piece began with wool from flocks in the Mournes. The wools are undyed and chosen for their rich natural hues, hand spun and woven by Mario into an abstract wall piece with tactile depths.
