Artist Statement Pith Vessel
The unique quality of wood as a medium has been a continual source of inspiration for me.
The way in which it has the final say on the finished form when worked in a green
(unseasoned) state is a constant joy for me.
With my work I try to celebrate this unique material and the tree.
The 'Pith Vessel' in particular uses a part of the tree which is usually discarded, as it is soft
and has no structural integrity, yet has played a vital roll in the life of tree, storing nutrition
and transporting these nutrients to outer tissues in the plant.
