In this piece I explore feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy in my life through the lense of myself as a child. I aimed to question how people around me would treat and react if I couldn't be self-sufficient and became a sort of burden. 'Where's The Babysitter' was heavily inspired by The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, specifically in the crude quote "One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin", in this I liken a 'horrible vermin' to the image of myself as a child.
This painting was created while in residence at the RHA, undergoing a college residency program with IADT called the satellite residency. This piece is made in the medium of acrylic on canvas. I used a lot of my childhood photos and current day photos of my friends in gathering reference resources for this project.
