Brent Geese
I am a visual artist and printmaker and make linocuts inspired by the wild birdlife in and around the coastal area of north county Dublin where I live. One of the delights of living along the coast near Baldoyle Estuary is to first hear, and then see a flock of brent geese flying overhead. An important wintering area for these birds I see them regularly moving between the estuary and coastline, and other green areas nearby.
The print was commissioned for Fieldman Revisited, a republishing of nature journalist Larry de Lacy's newspaper columns from the 1940s. The image was inspired by his descriptive words - 'The Wild Geese are passing over, disturbing the quietude of the farm flocks'.
This three block linocut is printed on 300gsm somerset satin.
