One of the ways I decide the subject for my work is to chose
something that attracts me
greatly. It could be a visceral reaction to the colour, form or
beauty of the object be it organic or inanimate.
I begin to familiarise myself with the form of whatever I have chosen, usually by lots of drawings
Depending on my observations
I decide what medium I will use.
I work in paint, clay, wire, bronze and I also like to explore with colour in painting.
However working with colour glaze can also be very exciting as one never knows until the piece
Is fired, what the final result will
be.
I chose bronze for my bird I had first made and biscuit fired it .
I felt the weight and highly polished finish would
hopefully makes it a piece the viewer would want to hold and feel comfort from.
There are many artists who have
given great joy in their representation of the bird.
Some of my favourites are
Albrecht Durer, Picassos Doves and my own favourite, The Goldfinch by Carmel fabritius.
