Brooch With Stand - Heather McFadden
This piece is inspired by a vintage hand-blown glass doll's eye.
I used a fold forming technique in fine silver to achieve a suggested facial profile. To this form I applied sterling silver brooch fittings, enabling the top portion of the sculpture to be worn as jewellery.
When not being worn, the brooch sits on the brass stand. The more literal facial feature on the stand gives further context to the piece. I have patinated the brass of the stand to reflect the blue colour in the dolls eye, making the two elements more cohesive.
