Cats are beautiful, sleek creatures and I like drawing them but I must admit that I not a cat person. My garden has a pond, feeding stations and nests to attract birds. The local cats ensure that there is always spare food in the bird feeders. But it is their nature to hunt. A moth is drawn to the flame the cat hunts. In this print it doesn't look like it will end well for the moth. Cats are cats and do their thing but I would prefer to have the birdsong.
This work is an aquatint over line etching. The fur effect is made by stopping out with a very fine brush gradually over multiple short trips to the acid. I tried to capture the deadly intensity of the cat's gaze while keeping the oblivious moth in the cat's eyeline.
