Donal Murphy

My name is Donal Murphy,i am from South Armagh from the village of Forkhill, i am a first assistant in the camera department in film and drama in Ireland and i am also a photographer who has exhibited in Dublin with an exhibition based off my book "The classic route, Iran and Iranians".
The picture that will exhibit in this years RUA exhibition was taken this time last year while i was working in Donegal on a tv drama called Obituary. I was lucky that the production put me up in a beautiful location just outside of the town of Ballyshannon which looked across the Atlantic and the beautiful mountain ranges of Leitrim and Sligo. Every morning and evening i would be treated to spectacular sunrises and sunsets and atmospheric views. I had borrowed a sports zoom lens from my director of photography JJ Rolfe, this lens allowed me to shoot across the bay and into the mountains. The picture was taken one moody day, Eagles rock was coverd with cloud for most of the morning and just before i left for work i noticed the clouds breaking and the morning light attempting to peak through. Thankfully i captured a few images and was delighted with the final results. The picture is the perfect example of right place right time.
