Janet Murran

Janet Murran.
I am a landscape artist living near Skibbereen in West Co.Cork. I paint with acrylic on solid
wood panels. My work is directly influenced by the environment that surrounds me.
Inspiration comes from those small magical, fleeting moments, Glimmers, that I encounter
in nature, influencing me to create work filled with a deeper understanding and awareness
to the wonderful diversity and harmony that can be found all around me in the natural
world. My work explores place and the emotions that are evoked, allowing memory and
reality to fuse, where light, colour and texture come from many instances rather than one
specific encounter, revealing a seemingly known place in a new and fresh light. Before I
start an artwork, I like to get deeply acquainted with the subject by visiting and revisiting a
place many times, absorbing its uniqueness through the rich lens of attention, then back in
my studio I allow my experience of a place and the whole painting process to merge into a
finished artwork as you can see in my painting called ‘How extraordinary the ordinary is’,
hanging here in the RUA 144th Annual Exhibition, which was inspired by time spent along
the rugged West Cork coast, exploring rock pools and the cold waters edge.
