New Year's Day' was created in response to the elegant, simple beauty of the landscape encountered on a family walk in Lough Boora, Co. Offaly on New Year's Day 2025. Expecting to see cold, bleak, flat vistas spread out across the midlands bog, I was delighted and surprised at the range and depth of colours and textures visible even in mid Winter.

It is a mixed media piece with embroidery as the primary technique. The background was built up in layers using watercolour and pastels on repurposed heavy cotton fabric. The frame is not merely a display mechanism but forms an integral part of the piece - hand made and treated to echo and reinforce the organic nature of the work.

I am a multi disciplinary Kildare based artist. Most of my work is rooted in observational studies from landscapes and figures, and tends to be understated and reserved. My work involves engaging with slow, intentional, and material-driven processes that connect art to life whilst considering what we value and why. This piece is a celebration of the natural world and our connection to it and each other.
