The face of the cast features a raised (shiny) branching pattern and behind it there is a similar but indented pattern. Both patterns are shaped like mathematicians' Caley trees which form the basis of mathematical models describing both the diffusion of bacterial secretions and the expression of quantum states.
I am amazed at the universality of mathematical truth exemplified by such diverse applications of a theoretical construct. It is truly a beautiful thing when universal truths are revealed. My artwork is a celebration of this beauty.
I am based in Northern Ireland and make finely detailed drawings and sculptures. My work mostly hovers in the no man's land between abstraction and figuration and is inspired by natural shapes and patterns. My previous occupation as a veterinary surgeon gives me a particular interest in complex microscopic forms.
