Laurie Campbell is a multi-award-winning photographer from N.Ireland, whose photography reflects her love of birds and animals. Growing up on a diet of David Attenborough wildlife documentaries undoubtedly fed her curiosity about the natural world and the wonderful diversity of birds & animal species found on planet earth
Without a huge travel budget, the wildlife she captures is often found in nature parks and zoos. And while she often feels conflicted about the role of zoos, she acknowledges that such places play an invaluable role in conservation and enables her to study and observe the behaviour of species she might not otherwise encounter.
Her aims is to create compelling works of art that remind people of the wonderful diversity of wildlife we share this planet with, and which we are in danger of losing if we do not look after the planet
For this artist, composition is not only about the careful placement of the subjects within the frame, but also about the connectivity between the subjects.
She is also interested in the continually evolving relationship between humans and wildlife down through the centuries For example paintings of Demoiselle crane have been found on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs and were depicted in hieroglyphs where they were revered. And even today in places like Mongolia, India and China demoiselle cranes are considered sacred
