As an artist who deals with a chronic illness, I wanted to almost process my diagnosis through my creative practice, and I find the most accessible way for me to do so is through knitting. Knitting is a practice that I can do from my bed, in a dimly lit room, lying down, and alone. This means that when I am having days where I am particularly unwell, I can still make art.
‘Panadol’ is a piece that meshes a tool of accessibility (painkillers) with a mode of creativity that also accessible. Using techniques such as stranded colorwork and intarsia I was able to create the image of a box of Panadol. I wanted to turn an image usually associated with illness into one of comfort, the softness of the wool contrasting the pain felt when a Panadol is required.
