It's a painting of Keel Strand on Achill Island, a place I return to time and again to paint, if not always in person but certainly in my dreams.
Achill Island is where I spent most of my summer holidays and 1969 is the most memorable due to the fact that man landed on the moon when I was there and we had a heatwave in Ireland. It's the same year that trouble broke out in Ireland and Achill Island represents a carefree childhood that disappeared that year.
This artwork is painted using watercolour paints and a relatively new medium for me, water soluble oils that have a nice smooth consistency and still allow for watercolour effects.
