Artist Statement :
'There's no hurry in Killybegs'
Like a lot of artists I love to revisit particular subjects and areas. Killybegs and its fishing boats are near the top of that list. So much so that a visitor to an exhibition once refused to believe that I was actually from Belfast and not Donegal.? We had to agree to differ.
It was late Summer and I was treated to a perfectly sunny day with a cerulean blue sky and mirror like sea. The fleet was huddled together and my attention was drawn to the red boat with its vibrant red winch which was reflecting into the silent rich dark blue water.
Thus 'There's no hurry in Killybegs' was born
'Autumnal day from the top of the Cavehill'
Unlike the Donegal painting this was a cold dreary day on the top of North Belfast's majestic mountain.
In the bottom third of the painting is Belfast Castle camouflaged by the vegetation in its Autumnal orange and brown hues. Beyond that is Fortwilliam Golf Course and then Belfast Lough.
It may have been a dreary day but the views were spectacular and well worth the trek.
I ended up doing a Cavehill series which proved very popular.
