Deborah Hill

Deborah Hill grew up in Belfast and has worked in the education sector since 1998.

'Inside the Palm House IV' is the latest work in her series of Palm House themed illustrations. Deborah creates her work using an Apple pencil, drawing freehand on an iPad Pro.

As a child, Deborah regularly visited her grandparents in Stranmillis and therefore has a strong, subjective  attachment  to the area, especially the Botanic Gardens. Her childhood memories of the towering trees and plants have had a lasting impact on her. She believes that our personal experiences can help us form emotional attachments to buildings and places and that we can feel a sense of affection for a building, not just as a physical space, but as a source of comfort. Her work invites the viewer to appreciate the delicate balance between structure and nature, highlighting the tension and harmony between the natural and constructed, and suggesting a dialogue between human design and natural growth. The stylised lines and bold blocks of colour flatten the perspective, creating a dreamlike space where nature and structure can co-exist.'
