"BY THE TAIL" - inspired by the expression "catch a tiger by the tail". While the phrase may imply being in a difficult situation beyond one's control, my sculpture tells a story of fun and excitement. The little monkey isn't trapped in a predicament, he is enjoying the wild ride!
"GOLDEN WHISPER" - The hare, normally depicted in stages of action, energy and speed, is captured in a moment of tranquility. His cocked ears are tuned in to a sound only he can hear, a subtle voice that brings a sense of calm.
Stephanie Hess - for me, sculpture is all about joy. The books of my childhood have influenced the way I see animals and the way they interact with each other. The stories of Peter Rabbit, Winnie the Pooh, Wind in the Willows, Jungle Book, to name but a few, show a world where animals are not just wild creatures - they are beings with hopes, dreams, opinions and adventures.
I create bronze limited edition sculptures using the lost wax method.

Colour plays a huge part in conveying the mood or character of my work. I love experimenting with patinas not normally associated with traditional bronze sculpture.
The world my animals inhabit is a place of joy, colour, tenderness, humor and whimsy.
