Rosie McGurran RUA: ‘Three Men on an Island’ – a tribute to James MacIntyre RUA (1926 – 2015)

In the spring of 1951 Belfast artist James MacIntyre received a letter from Gerard Dillon: would he like to join him for a month or so in Connemara? So began an unforgettable summer of painting with Gerard Dillon and fellow artist George Campbell on Inishlacken, a tiny island off the remote west of Ireland. Beautifully embellished with the work of all three men and warmed by MacIntyre’s gentle humour, Three Men on an Island uniquely illuminates not only the painter’s craft but also the sources of artistic inspiration.

Rosie McGurran recalls ‘I read a book and it changed my life’ when she was given the book in 1999 and since then she has made Roundstone and Inishlacken her spiritual home.
