Visitors to the Academy’s Annual Exhibition are invited to transform the landscape of over half a million sugar cubes into an imaginary, sparkling city of the future. This unique, collaborative sculpture installation begins with a meandering river of sugar, complemented by giant mountains of sugar cubes. You can source your cubes from the mountains, depleting the mounds as the imaginary city grows vertically. Inside, a trained sculptor is on hand to help you construct parts of the city and can demonstrate how best to build the cubes in a stable fashion.

This giant collaborative project has been devised for the Royal Ulster Academy by international sculptor Brendan Jamison ARUA and is made possible through the support of Arts & Business NI, sponsor KPMG and Belfast City Council.

“This special project aims to celebrate the power of collaboration in art, unlocking the potential of thousands of minds working together in the realisation of an artwork beyond any one person’s singular vision.”
