GUIDED EXHIBITION TOUR
Complement your visit to the Royal Ulster Academy’s Annual Exhibition with an introductory guided tour by Anna Liesching this Saturday at 2.30pm.
Anna is assistant curator in the art department of the Ulster Museum, most recently working on the Art of the Troubles, including producing the artist films, talks and events that accompanied the exhibition. Many of these artists are featured in the Academy’s Annual Exhibition (link to the films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_UgxDN1Li89R2oBOP5mHvf6ptZtEKalp). Anna is currently working on incorporating the recently gifted Arts Council of Northern Ireland works into the Ulster Museum collection. For her talk on Saturday she plans to focus on the more architecturally sculptural pieces in the exhibition and the artists who produced them.
A further guided exhibition tour in Spanish facilitated by Gerry Lenaghan will take place at 4pm on the same day.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Two members of the Academy will discuss their exhibition works at the Ulster Museum. Talks take place in front of the artist’s work and will last approximately 10 minutes.

1.15PM – RITA DUFFY RUA
Rita Duffy received a B.A. and M.A. in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, Belfast. Her art is often autobiographical, including themes and images of Irish identity, history and politics. She has initiated several major collaborative art projects and was made an Honorary Member of the R.S.U.A. for her developmental work within the built environment. She is an associate at the Goldsmiths College, London and worked on an artistic exchange between Argentina and Northern Ireland, looking at the role art has in post conflict societies. Recent projects include The Shirt Factory Project during the Derry/Londonderry City of Culture and the launch of The Thaw Factory Book in October of this year. Duffy’s work is held in numerous public and private collections including the Ulster Museum; Arts Council NI; Merchant Hotel, Belfast; Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork; Royal Victoria Hospitals, Belfast; Queens University, Belfast; The Drawing Museum, New York and the Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
1.25PM – ANGELA HALLIDAY ARUA
Angela Halliday completed a BA Hons degree in Fine and Applied Arts in 2002 and was awarded a Master of Fine Arts with distinction in 2005 from the University of Ulster. She completed a practice–based PhD in 2011, producing a body of work including the video installations Helen (the library was my great project) and 1859. Her doctoral thesis was titled Video Narratives and The Construction of the Female Subject. Angela’s work has been shown nationally and internationally. The video work Helen (the library was my great project), a single channel video installation, was acquired by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for their collection in 2010. Recent work exhibited includes Capall in the group exhibition Presently at The Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown (7 February – 29 March 2014) and Topographies: Smithfield, Belfast at the Royal Ulster Academy 132nd Annual Exhibition, Ulster Museum, Belfast. Since 2011, Angela has also been the Manager of the Digital Arts Studios in Belfast.
